The Progressive Corporation and Subsidiaries Claims Payment Patterns 2004 (unaudited) |
The Company is primarily an insurer of automobiles, recreation vehicles and trucks owned by small businesses. As such, the Company's claim liabilities, by their very nature, are short in duration. Since the Company's incurred losses consist of both payments and changes in the reserve estimates, it is important to understand the Company's paid development patterns. The charts below show the Company's auto claims payment patterns, reflecting both dollars and claims counts paid, for auto physical damage and bodily injury claims, as well as on a total auto basis. Since physical damage claims pay out so quickly, the chart is calibrated on a monthly basis, as compared to a quarterly basis for the bodily injury and total auto payments. Physical Damage
Bodily Injury

Note: The above graphs are presented on an accident period basis. |
